    Hi friends!

I'm on a baking kick and have decided to try making macarons at home. One of the key ingredients is almond flour. I've looked online and the average about $10/pound. Is almond flour really that expensive or is there a cool place that sells it for less? Thanks!

    marias23,

Make your own almond flour or almond meal by pulsing blanched almonds (whole, sliced, or slivered) in small batches in a food processor.

I don't know if almond meal would work for you, but I recently picked some up at Trader Joe's for a decent price. I think it was $5 or $6 for 1 lb.

Does that mean that expensive and sometimes-hard-to-find chestnut flour is just finely ground chestnuts?

How would one make it? Do you cook or boil or roast chestnuts first? Then grind?

Any help is appreciated. I have a gnocchi recipe I have always wanted to try. --Joy
