Fabulous event. Thanks again, Agnes. The food was great. The setting was great. The company was great.

Thanks so much for all your work in pulling this together.

Thanks to Agnes and all who helped to put together last night's event. As usual, I took lots of pictures early and then flagged. There area few more in the LTH Flickr Pool but here are a selection.

When we arrived at Agnes' building, the caterers were still putting the finishing touches on the spread in the party room, so she invited us up to her home. She has a nice view of the city.

The sate was to be grilled fresh on her balcony. (The party room didn't have cooking appliances.)

    Here's how that ended up:

    Sate after

When we went to the party room, a buffet was spread in two stations. I didn't manage to get any good pictures of the appetizers and desserts, but I covered the main dish table.

I must begin with a disclaimer: my food reportage skills, never the strongest, were left behind last night. I think I was a little fatigued, physically from a long bike ride earlier in the day, and mentally from the recent Ghanaian banquet and a generally busy week. I'm hoping someone can fill in details better than I can.

The appetizers were corn fritters and stuffed wontons (stuffed with what? See disclaimer above). I stumbled across this recipe for Indonesian Corn Fritters -- ours didn't look like these much, but probably have the same basic intent.

I'm not sure an order after the appetizers was prescribed, but everyone seemed to start with the soup. This was actually called, I believe, "rice complete" which refers to the way that the ingredients together could form a complete meal. I think someone was speculating that the chafing dish component of the rice complete was livers.

Below in short order the rest of dishes:

    Curry Chicken

Also alas unphotographed (by me) was the dessert, which may have been my favorite thing of the night. Simply jackfruit and plantains in a sauce whose makeup eluded me.

As always, a group of LTHers is pretty much a guaranteed good time.

    Agnes,

Wonderfully enjoyable evening, the Kusumo's outdid themselves offering a window to Indonesia that is completely unavailable in Chicago and your hospitality, and generous nature, shown through in every detail.

An eclectic mix of people, LTHers, friends and family of Agnes's, plus local food writers Mike Sula and Monica Eng made for interesting conversation. I love it when conversation jumps continents, political boundaries, decades, lights briefly on a type of Taiwanese street food where a hot dog is encased in hot dog shaped rice, then moves on.

Germuska has posted pictures of the food, which, frankly, are better than my own so I'll simply post a few people pictures.
