...with this "craze" of caffeine which will undoubtedly die down after a few more kids die or spend nights in the hospital after caffeine overdoses. Is caffeine "kewl" or something? Since when is it cool to need a chemical to stay lucid? (I'm not a caffeine junkie if you can't tell.)
I bought 12 pks of soda yesterday on a whim - summer season is coming, the 12pks were 5 for 10 dollars. I usually only drink Diet Rite on a regular basis as far as soda, and for a rare treat, I will get a full sugar root beer, or a cream soda, or a Jarritos Tamarind or Sandia. I can probably count the number of full sugar sodas I've had in the last two years on both hands. Not that this is some profound profession of me being a health nut or anything, just noting that I haven't kept up with the state of sodas in the past few years. Plus, with the way, and amount that I eat, the most logical thing that I have to give up is regular soda, or else I'd just be as big as a house, since as it stands now, I'm about the size of a two car garage even with religiously hitting the gym 3x per week.

Anyway, the soda selection was limited, but wanted to have some around the house for visitors, nephews, nieces, the odd bq here and there, and also a few for me. Bought Diet Sunkist, reg Sunkist, diet 7up, A&W root beer, and diet A&W root beer. I know now to chek the A&W labels since they burned me before (their cream soda contains caffeine now.) Got home, and decided to give the Diet Sunkist a try to see if it could replace
my Diet Rite Tangerine. No Go. Read the label, and to my horror, found another soda ruined by caffeine. (ruined meaning I can't drink it anymore.)

I used to love sunkist in my youth. Why caffeine? I know why - because now, it's "EXTREME," and skaters and surfers drink it on the commercials.
Caffeine is running rampant these days, and the hospials are geting increased cases of children od'ing on the stuff.

I'm all for Darwinism, but, damn, I wish they'd leave the sodas I like alone. I didn't even think twice about buying the Sunkist, since generally,
the fruit flavored sodas tend to be caffeine free.

Be warned if you don't like your kids to have caffeinated stuff.

I also don't drink soda, diet or regular. I can count on one hand how many I've had in five years. The only soda we keep on hand is fresca(regular flavor) and (diet squirt) for the summer vodka drinks. I guess I do have some caffeine free diet cokes and ginger ale(for the dad) to mix with his bourbon, but that's it.
Now I'm curious, when I get home, I need to check the label.

AHH. been burned by the squirt before too. I think the RED squirt is the one w/ caffeine in it tho. Fresca (a fave of mine) generally does not. Although they MIGHT now since they have come out with a bunch of new flavors.

    Since about 1600?

Someone advanced the theory that it was basically coffee which made the Enlightenment and the rise of mercantilism happen, and vastly accelerated the advance of certain European cultures and their dominance over other cultures where people drank hard cider or vodka all day. I'm not completely convinced by this (then coffee-loving, abstemious Turkey should have taken over the world in the 1500s-- not that they didn't try!) but coffee culture surely played some part.

That said, yes, you certainly have to watch the stuff your kids guzzle at dinner if you want them to actually go to bed.

It's always been my understanding that Sunkist contained caffiene. In fact, I believe that it contains more caffiene than most. Now, I believe that Crush orange doesn't have caffiene, but I cannot find confirmation.

excellent news, I only drink sodas that contain caffeine , now I have another one to add to my list. I like to drink Mt. Dew, because sometimes I am not in the mood for a cola.

I typically drink 4-5 cans of pepsi, or coke a day. I dont drink coffee, so I need to get the caffeine from somewhere.

I may stand corrected here. After a cursory search, I haven't found anything with any info on WHEN Sunkist was caffeinated. It may have ALWAYS been that way. I had no idea, my own fault for not knowing when the info is available.

    Found a silly quote:
"On the Sunkist website they explain "There's something about fresh citrus fruit that makes people feel energized!"

"Sure, well, that may be true, but after being up all night, I'll tell you what it is about Sunkist that makes you feel energized, and it has nothing to do with fresh fruit."

    and a caffeine quiz:

Diet Sunkist has caffeine!!! Hot damn!!!

I'm horribly addicted to diet caffeinated sodas... I find it difficult to function at work w/o it, and I cannot gulp down hot coffee fast enough (I do drink it cold sometimes). Such is the life of an overworked __________.

In case you're wondering... physician is the mad-lib answer for me.
