La Humita - closed [due to fire]

Went to try this Ecudoran restaurant (3400 block of North Pulaski) on Saturday and a sign in the window said closed due to fire.

Wow, I was planning on going there for pre theatre dinner on Saturday! I will call to see if they're now open!

They've been open for at least 6 months now following the fire.

So I was out riding my bike in that general vicinity last weekend and I noticed a higher than usual number of Ecuadoran restaurants and other signs. I hadn't really thought of Chicago having a substantial Ecuadoran population, but it turns out that there are more Ecuadorans than Colombians or Cubans or Nigerians or even Irish.

I see that JeffB is a big fan of Mi Ciudad. Is it still strong? I'll have to try to get out that way. Are any other places notable?

That stretch of Irving is very Ecuadorian, in fact. (There's even a parade.) Plus, Ecuadorian restaurants tend to be be better than average, or better than you might expect, because such a high concentration of Ecuadorians work the line in high-end kitchens in Chicago (NYC also). I believe the Mi Ciudad/Cuenca chef works days in one of the big steakhouses (or did).

Have not been to Mi Ciudad in some time, though I sadly notice how empty is us. is. BTW, Mi Ciudad was also closed due to fire for a time.
