over the past few years, i've been increasingly concerned about the amount of produce in grocery stores that comes from Chile - mostly because i have no knowledge base about their farming practices, etc. (never mind the food miles!). on a recent trip to westbrook market, at the very least all of the grapes, plums, and peaches came from Chile. not very comforting.

can someone please direct me to where i can read more about Chile's produce to get a better understanding of where it's coming from? if not than i will be spending the whole day on google trying to look for it myself. tia!

If you don't want to buy products from Chile then you have to buy fruit when it's in season here. Since Chile has an opposite growing season as we do, that is how we can get fresh produce in the winter. Actually, fresh peaches will probably be tight this year since freezes damaged a lot of the fresh peach crop, and peaches cannot be held under modified atmosphere unlike pears or apples.

When I grow up, I'm going to Bovine University!
