Any suggestions for good Chinese food in the Lincoln Square area? Say, walking distance from the Old Town School?

No. Not within walking distance. You're almost as far north as Argyle, you're much better off hopping a Lawrence bus or driving to the likes of Sun Wah. I lived in that area briefly, ordered from various usual suspects (Plenty, etc.) and wouldn't consider any more than adequate. Very old school Cantonese, most of them (if you want that, go to Orange Garden, where the so-so food comes with great old atmosphere).

Now, Thai food, of course you're in a different world. You've got Spoon, Rosded and Opart right there and others like Sticky Rice within a reasonable walk.

Don't forget Aroy Thai on Damen, just a few blocks east of the Old Town School.

This probably won't help too much, but I'll add it anyway - for general info. on the area: I was riding the bus past Western and Lawrence last Sunday (N. on Western) and noted what I think is a new take-out restaurant on the E. side of Western, 1/4 block N. of Lawrence - Thai/Nippon (I think that's the name). I thought it an interesting combination, if the name is indicitive of the serving of Thai and Japanese food. I recall there was a Chinese take-out in that same location (or very close by) not long ago; maybe this is a reincarnation/repositioning. Anybody else see this place?

This thread gives a good overview of Sun Wah. The Search function is useful in discovering information

Sun Wah is killer, but don't confuse it with Win Wah or some similar name on Lincoln close to Montrose. Not good...

Wah Sun is pretty good (not to be confused with "Sun Wah" on Argyle). Wah Sun is located a block or two south of Montrose on Lincoln. Loooooove the Ma Po Tofu - salty, spicy goodness with lots of soft tofu, and a hint of ginger in a light bean-paste sauce. There's also pork in the dish! Also - great BBQ Pork.

My dining experiences have been pretty reliable with Wah Sun and they deliver too!

I've lived in Ravenswood for about ten years now and am sorry to say that there just isn't any good Chinese food in this area. Nope. None.

But there's just about every thing else you could think of.

While not on the cutting edge, Wah Sun is a safe and reliable place, that's only two blocks south of OTSFM. I've eaten there for twenty years and rarely had a bad meal. I usually rate other Chinese places' rendition of hot and sour soup against Wah Sun's. Sure there are some better, but there are sure a hell of a lot worse.

Then I recommend skipping their Orange Chicken. I tried Wah Sun a few months ago for takeout as I live around the corner. The orange chicken had way too much breading on it and was just not good at all.

Oops-Wah Sun was what I meant in the above post (not win wah). In all fairness, I only tried it once when I lived around there-didn't like it and returned to Orange Garden for that kind of stuff. Not that the OP asked for this, but Cho Sun Ok is also close by for Korean...

I will try Wah Sun and let you all know.

As long as we are figuritively wandering from my original post -- does anyone know what is going in at Montrose and Artesian? It was a Sports Bar but has been closed for a couple of years. Now it looks like something kind of nice is going in there.

I am also of the opinion that there is no good chinese in lincoln square. In this similar thread, my advice was to go to Sun Wah or order delivery from Mei Shung:
