Four years ago, one of the first ways that the community that would ultimately become LTHForum went beyond just posting online was by making a video exploring the famous Maxwell Street market and the authentic Mexican food to be found there.

Hosted by David Hammond, with Vital Information mainly leading the way and a host of other LTHers including Cathy2, Seth Zurer, PDaane, Justjoan, MAG and more showing off different things in the market, it was an hour-long in-depth exploration of the food, the history, the vendors and the funky street vibe of Maxwell Street-- all leading to a shocking climax in which G Wiv downs one of Maxwell Street's most unique comestibles... the eyeball taco.

In the technologically ancient days of 2003, the way you saw it was by buying the DVD or catching it on public access cable. For some time we've thought about putting it on something like YouTube-- but we never liked the quality of online versions before, the muddy visuals didn't do the amazing food justice. Finally we settled on a service called Motionbox as offering the best quality and other useful features that help you jump to the part you want to see. So at long last, the only food show with a real fake gorilla in it, Gorilla Gourmet: Maxwell Street Mexican is available free, in seven parts, here.

Though some of the details are out of date in regards to this ever-changing market, the insights into the food offered there and the hints for how to get the good stuff that you'll pick up make it relevant viewing today. Plus, it's free! So go here and start watching it now!

So, why wasn't this picked up by Food Network or PBS?
