Anyone know if the bags of frozen pink shrimp sold at IKEA's "food area" are pre-cooked or raw? TIA.

Well, JayK, I'm unsure as to exactly what the Chicagoland IKEA are selling but I'm guessing (due to their Swedish roots) that these shrimp are the same as what we eat here in Sweden.

In which case they are precooked.

Defrost gently, say, in the refridgerator overnight. Many cheat by rinsing and/or soaking in cold or even warm water but that will detract from their sweetness.

Swedes eat these as they are (well, peeled) with white wine, a baguette a salad and some good cheeses or on a slice of white bread with avocado and hardboiled egg slices, a dab of mayonaise and a mound of whitefish roe.

Most people never reheat these shrimp as they get tough and lose their sweetness. In fact, I find that they do not make a good substitute for raw, fresh gulf shrimp as they are too sweet and delicate and don't take too well to reheating.

Bridgestone, thanks for the reply; You knew exactly what I was thinking - another source for wild shrimp. Too bad; I'd looked them up on wikipedia to learn a little more about these tiny wild shrimp.
