The note about the other Belgian event reminded me to post about this one!
Unfortunately we will actually be IN Belgium during this event, but we are fairly long-time members of CBS (me 7 years, griffin longer) and can vouch for the quality of their events.

Inspired by Belgium: A Feast of Beer & Food
On Sunday, July 8, the Chicago Beer Society is presenting a tasting of Belgian and Belgian-inspired beers and food. The event will take place from 1 to 5 pm, at the DANK-Haus, the German-American Cultural Center, at 4740 N. Western Ave., in Chicago's Lincoln Square neighborhood. It's a gorgeous room, with plenty of space for this walk-around event.
This is a beer and food event - a context in which Belgian beers really shine. Catering will be provided by the Hearty Boys, an nationally known local firm with a reputation for very high quality food. Food items include Belgian-style cheese, kriek-glazed chicken wings, carbonnade Flamande (beef in beer stew) and a beery risotto with sautéed shrimp and asparagus. (SEE THE FULL MENU ON THE FLYER LINKED BELOW)
In addition, Michael Roper, owner of the Belgian beer bar/restaurant, the Hopleaf, will be joining us, steaming mussels in a beer sauce.
There will be a wide variety of Belgian and Belgian-inspired beers being poured, from witbier to saison to abbey style to sour beers to the utterly uncharacterizable creations that define the Belgian approach to beer. A number of breweries from Illinois and nearby states will be presenting beers.
Tickets are now on sale at $50 for CBS members, $60 for nonmembers, purchased in advance. As always, you must be 21 or older to attend this non-smoking event.
