Does anyone know an ice cream place with non-dairy treat options? Sorbets? Ices?

Something for us poor lactose intolerants; I'm tired of eating what I buy at the grocery store.

    Help. Please.

What area? If you tell us where you are, maybe somebody has a suggestion for a good Italian ice nearby.

Oops. I'm in the Logan Square/Bucktown/Wicker Park area, but, I have a bike and a UPass at my disposal.

Is Miko's still open? They have (or had) one location in Bucktown and another in Logan Square. I am about 90% sure the Logan Square operation is still in business, but don't know about Bucktown. Moreover, I've never tried either one. But hey, why let that stop you? :)

The Miko's on Damen in Bucktown is still open. Don't remember the exact location, but it's somewhere between North and Armitage on the west side of the street. Tasty!

Sweet Ocassions will from time to time have soy ice creams. One's on Damen under the brown line stop, other's on Clark just north of Berwyn. I'd call first, though, since it's not an everyday thing, it seems.

Miko's in Bucktown is very much open and ready for summer-- they're located at 1846 N. Damen, and I highly recommend getting a mango/coconut combo. ;)

The Miko's in Logan Square is also open and delicious. I had some on Saturday.

Mario and Wendee's Italian Ice in Lincoln Park (1136 W. Armitage Ave. 773-327-2885) has a particularly refined chocolate version.

The non-dairy at the place in Roscoe Village is Double Rainbow Soycream from San Fransisco, also available at Trader Joe's (or at least it used to be).

The non-dairy at Sweet Occasions (on Clark) is also pretty delicious and soy based.

Years ago, there was also non dairy ice cream at Soul Vegetarian (205 E 75th St) but I'm not sure they still have it.

I know all of these places are not in your neighborhood, but when I didn't eat dairy, I was willing to travel for frozen treats.

Yes, it's Mario & Gino's. It only seems to be open during the summer months. And by that, I mean the literal 3 months of summer. So it still isn't open for the season yet. I'm not sure how it stays in business.
It isn't that I'm not full...

If you don't mind a trip, catch the metra to Hyde Park, get off at 57th Street and directly underneath the train line is a little cafe that does lactose free stuff - my husband is a serious icecream loving chocoholic and swears the soy chocolate icecream there is the best he has ever had.

There is also a great sorbet and lemon ice (with several other flavors) on Southport by the Brown Line L stop. Bobtail is across the street from this place and it is next to or around Ann Sathers...

I too am Lactose Intolerant and love it there. They usually have about 10-15 different flavored ices on hand with several other sorbet options too.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Chicago Diner yet -- they have the most amazing non-dairy 'milk'shakes. Get a cookie dough shake with peanut butter and it'll make your entire summer.

You can also get the same vegan ice cream (Temptation - www.welovesoy.com) that the Chicago Diner carries at Earwax in Wicker Park.

Veggie Bite way down on the South side has a vegan soft serve and they also carry Temptation too.

That ice cream is also available at some Whole Foods in the area and a few other places. It's really awesome stuff!
