That story (and photo) actually reminded me of Neptune's brioche, which is not my preference, and gets a little soggy on the bottom. You were looking for reasonably-priced, and B&G is the most expensive one I believe. The article also mentioned James Hook, which I haven't tried, but have heard good things, and it's very reasonably priced. If you're deciding b/w B&G and Neptune, go with the former.

I was at B&G's on Friday and it was still $25 for the lobster roll.

Fun place, with great oysters naturally. But you're not getting out of there for less than $40 a person.

Did you get a lobster roll? I am willing to splurge on the lobster roll if it is worth the dough.

For good, cheap seafood, you have to head to Cape Ann, which is less than an hour from Boston. So many good seafood places, including Woodman's and the Village Restaurant, both in Essex, the Lobster Pool in Rockport, the Clam Box in Ipswich, and many, many places in Gloucester.

I personally like The Lobster Pool in Rockport better than Woodman's. Other places I've heard are good include:

    Farnham's, Essex
    Essex Seafood, Essex
    Top Dog, Rockport
    Causeway Restaurant, Gloucester

I did not get the lobster roll; I stuck with oysters and a scallop dish that had the most casual use of a foam I've ever seen. But, hey, expertly grilled scallops + bacon + gnocchi + foam = good
