Tacos in West Loop/Randolph street area?

Any good taco joint recommendations? And I don't mean Decero, I am talking about a more authentic type of place. Any help would be appreciated!

There's a place on the south side of Randolph on the next corner west of DeCero which is a pretty competent no-frills taco shop. The name escapes me.

lists a menu. I have only had lunch there- & it was a while ago. I thought it was good. It was the company I was with that was awful...

That's the place. It's nothing special, but if you're looking for a quick decent taco it fills the bill.

I just had a beautiful bowl of birria de chivo en caldo at Perez for lunch. Completely satisfying. For what it's worth, I do think Perez is pretty special. For a place catering to a pretty diverse office/working crowd, they do a good job with a lot of their menu. They have different soups every day (today was menudo and birria--but the chicken is also fantastic) and every one I've tried has been great--not the best in the city, but darn good. They also offer goat tacos, but I think only on the weekends (and maybe friday?). I've never had the barbacoa, but I'm pretty sure that is also offered on the weekends. I would definitely recommend giving it a try, especially if you happen to be in the neighborhood for lunch on Friday or Saturday.

yup it's pretty decent... pretty much the only tacqueria in the area if i recall... (minus greek fast food places that sell tacos..).

I just ate a perez and I have to say that I was impressed. I ordered the Wed special which was under 6 bucks and got the following:

Basket of Tortilla Chips
2 Salsas(one smokey and one salsa fresca)
Costillas de puero con calabasistas(pork rib tips with zucchini)
Rice and beans on the side
a stack of warmed corn tortillas(too many too possibly eat)

I assume there was no zucchini in the dish unless it was really mashed up but the rip tips were really good because of the spicy sauce they were strewed in. It also came with rice and beans. I ordered a coke with it also and the total was around $7.50 which is an incredible value and I left a few bucks for tip. It had a mexican cantina feel to it and I will definitely make the trip back. If anyone is in the area I would recommend giving it a try.

It's a decent place for a filliing breakfast, too--when much of the rest of the area is closed down--if you like breakfast with a south-of-the-border flavor.

I also agree that perez is pretty special. Love the pork tacos/ burritos they have. I always just order the pork and over easy eggs for breakfast on saturdays (note they are not open on sundays unfortunately)

I too will vouch for Perez. Its always fresh, I think they run a meat business as well. While they lack a range of regional specialties, if you order the right stuff it is really satisfying. The birria is pretty good- can be on the bony side. The shrimp dishes are really good- the shrimp ceviche tostada special on the weekends is a great deal. The shrimp soup is my favorite in the city- packed with exceptionally large shrimp. Their al pastor is quite nice, on the less greasy side. The tortas are great, always served on fresh baked bolillos. My all time favorite dish, though, which is not offered on any average taqueria menu is the huevos con machacado, which is served huevos ala mexicana style with shreds of rehydrated dried beef. It is my favorite huevos in town, hands down, especially doused with their delicious salsa negra. Good luck finishing the monstrous sized order! Anyway, I do love Perez and its conveniently situated around the corner from the West Loop gallery district, perfect for a festive meal and margaritas after an evening of art viewing!
