FYI: On Friday I had dinner and drinks at Bin 36 and although removed from the menu, the waiter was more than happy to bring us an absolutely delicious order of foie gras...

If only I had known Bin 36 was serving foie on the underground. Next time, next time. Perhaps a moderator might consider changing the name of this thread to reflect more broad, Bin 36 discussion.

Anyway, stopped by Bin 36 last Thursday. It was pretty good. Really liked the structure of the wine list and all the cheeses.

We started off with the oysters, from some point in Maine, which were surprisingly delicious. Large and more briny than sweet, I could've eaten the entire dozen. I think it was only like $17 or so for the dozen so a great price too.

Then I had the fritto misto, which was a little bit disappointing. It's perhaps systematic that fritto misto can seem boring and uninspired. Yet good fritto misto allows the different textures and flavors of its featured ingredients to shine through. This rendition made both seafood items taste the same. There were some clams and pieces of little softshell crab. Also, some perfunctory frisee and some kind of mayonnaise-y aioli thing. The fried lemon slices were the best part of this dish.

My hangar steak was straightforward but good. Some red wine sauce, maybe some asparagus. Entirely unremarkable but satisfying at the time. Thankfully the steak was cooked rare as I requested. A little pricey at like $24 or so, but I'd probably order it again.

Finished with their dessert cheese flight. This was a really nice offering and with the oysters would make a wonderful light meal. The cheeses skewed toward the sweet and creamy (something with a "rind" or raisins, another with a rind of cocoa powder) which was bit a gimmicky but the cheeses were quite good. My Brillat Savarin wasn't quite served at the peak of ripeness or at the perfect temperature, but on the whole it was an entirely serviceable cheese plate.

So I wouldn't seek this place out, but I do work close by so I'll probably end up going back and will stick to cheese, wine, and maybe some oysters.

    Hey All,

If anyone is interested, Bin 36 is running a special to celebrate their 10th anniversity. They will have 25 bottles of wines on sale for $10....dine in or carry out.

    Cheers :D
