A few weeks ago MsRev and I had the pleasure to try a Napa institution for lunch-Taylor's Refresher.

It may look like any 50's type burger joint drive-in from out front, but where else can you enjoy a delicious sandwich and shake in a setting like this?

    Image

The front of the menu is standard drive-in fare, but a wine list on the reverse side? Napa is so civilized! Hmm, what would you pair with a bacon cheeseburger?

I enjoyed a delightful, juicy blue cheese burger with fries and a chocolate shake. MsRev had an ahi burger with sweet potato fries. If you can't get a reservation at French Laundry, why not dine in style here!

Ah...been to Taylor's Refresher more times than I can count. Love those sweet potato fries!

But...your photos do a good job of not showing the bumper-to-bumper traffic on 29 in front of the place. Coming from the south, on weekends it can take more than 30 minutes to get there from Zinfandel Lane, which is less than two miles away! To those thinking of going there, and you should because it is in another league compared to their outpost in the Ferry Building in SF, weekdays are MUCH better than weekends.

And for a local connection, the burgers at Taylor's Refresher have more than a passing resemblance to those at the original Schoop's in Munster, IN...

    Rev,

    Now that's a Burger Stand!

Next time I'm anywhere near Saint Helena it's a blue cheese burger and sweet potato fries for me.

Nice pictures, especially of the lovely MsRev.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

    Rev,

Thanks for the heads up on Taylor's Refresher

Had lunch at Taylor's refresher in the Ferry Building. Quite the take out line at noon, even longer line for restaurant seating. Wide selection of healthy choices so, of course, I opted for the Western Burger with bacon, blue cheese, an onion ring and tangy BBQ sauce with pickles and red onion for accent, which made for a hearty, if not heart healthy, sandwich. Onion rings were a prime example of the breed, crisp coating yielding to tender white fleshed onions.

While I liked the combination of flavor, and the quality of ingredients was top-notch, I had a bit of sticker shock for my take-out eat al-trunk-o meal, $16.34 with a soda and tax. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's the Ferry Building in San Francisco, the ingredients are from the Gucchi, Poochi, Feruchi of foodie land, where provenance is becoming as important as taste, and you can't beat the setting,* but still, $16.34 for a burger, rings and coke is pretty damn hefty.

Dining Al-Trunko, parking lot directly adjacent to Ferry Building.

    Enjoy,
