I think this vintage has a bright future. We had 1996 lagrange, sociando, ducru, poyferre, clinet, and barton, The Poyferre was defective. The Lagrange had too much brett. The Sociando was sophisticated and showed beautifully, with a bright future. Ducru was complex , and should improve over 5+ years but shows well now The Clinet was good and a bit spicebox exotic. The Barton was rocking. It was "blurple" and quite fresh with a great future. Glad the 1996's are starting to show potential.

I look at the bulletin board on the Parker website often. Here is a link for those who don't know it (http://dat.erobertparker.com/bboard/for ... 239a5&f=10)
I find it to be a useful resource but, like the LTH forum, it depends on who is posting their opinion. Where did you see a thread about a 1996 offline?

I've drunk a lot of the 96, though I'm going to be completely honest here and I might get slammed for it. I'd rather drink the 99's.
is making all his reservations under the name Steve Plotnicki from now on.

I was in Bordeaux a few years ago, and spoke with the owner/winemaker at Ch. Laniote St. Emilion. He said that of the wines he produced in the past decade, he was most proud of his 1999. ("Anyone could make a great wine in 2000.") He rated it higher than his '96, too. Just one data point.
