I am helping to plan a 40th birthday party, and would love some help finding the right place. Here's what we have in mind:

A night of food and games for 15-25 people in a semi-nice private room. Preferably a north side of Chicago location, but we would travel a bit for the right place. Genre of food not important, we and our friends have very eclectic tastes. We hope to spend $20-30 a head on food at most, so that rules out anything too extravagant.

In a perfect world, this restaurant would have a room with a pool table, another table for board games or cards, and a basic sound system (though if we had to bring a boom box, it would not be the end of the world), and does not feel like a basement rec room. A secondary option would be to just go to a nice restaurant, and then move the party to a nearby locale for the games and dancing.

    Anyone have any suggestions?
    We crack us up.

If it's more about the games than the food, you might give Excalibur a call:

"The fork with two prongs is in use in northern Europe. In England, they’re armed with a steel trident, a fork with three prongs. In France we have a fork with four prongs; it’s the height of civilization." Eugene Briffault (1846)

Open table has lists of restaurants with private/semi-private space for groups:

it has been a while but my friends and i have rented out the blue frog bar on lasalle st. they have tons of board games and fairly decent bar food. the games are really the attraction...and the cheap drinks.

I dont know if guthries on addison serves food or has a private room but they definitely have games galore, a good juke box and a pool table i believe.

    sounds like a fun night
