I apologize for my failure to follow up on this journal in a more timely fashion of late. Work has had me quite busy.
This morning, I weighed in at 252 pounds which represents a weight loss of 76 pounds over my starting weight of 328 slightly more than one year ago.
In November, I was able to conquer the four month long skin infection which had kept me from getting fills for the previous four months. I was able to get one fill. Then, the infection returned.
The good news, for me, is that the fill that I got seemed to hit a certain sweet spot which has, finally, allowed for a new 12 pound or so loss in the last 40 days. I'm within spitting distance of being able to hit the 100 pound loss plateau by the one year anniversary of my surgery in April.
The bad news is, that once the new infection heals, I'm probably going to have to have the original port removed, then placed back in after they're sure that the infection has gone for good.
Thanksgiving day was just a horror for me in terms of being able to eat any thing at all. No matter how much I chewed, I couldn't seem to get anything down until I had a couple of bowls of vegetable soup that night. It was just one of those days.
I set a goal for myself top drop between 10 and 15 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I stand a pretty good chance of being able to hit that rather easily. In addition to caloric restriction, I have hired a personal trainer a couple of days a week to help me mix up my cardio and weightlifting routine to further facilitate my progress.
The new fill has really restricted what I can eat. Eating more than a cup of food at a time is pretty difficult for me now. I find myself easily, and without hunger, substituting protein drinks for snacks and meals. When i do eat, I tend to focus on things like chicken salad, braised meats, and high fiber cereals.
One of the regular "meals out" that I can handle is the fantastic massaman curry at Elephant Thai on Devon. The softness of the chicken and potatoes makes it go down rather easily.
The doctors at the former Wish Center have reformed a new practice called Lifeweigh Bariatrics in Downers Graove where I will continude to be treated through the time that I hit my goal of 120 pounds of weight loss.
Needless to say, I feel great, both about the weight loss and with regard to my general health.
I'll try to post a new picture in the next day or so.
