That's all. Effective yesterday. Pacific Cafe is on Damen, probably at about 1615 N. or so. I don't know that the food is anything special, anyways, but it's at least a somewhat significant development in a restaurant-dense neighborhood.

That's too bad. I'm never very trusting of places that do multiple styles of Asian (Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese), and their sushi was just mediocre.

However, Pacific Cafe is nearby where I spend a lot of time, open later, and cheap. After a few trips there I found myself craving their sukiyaki, though I usually ordered it with tofu instead of beef. I guess this just provides motivation to find a new sukiyaki hookup.

Any specifics on why they were closed? Violations, I assume? I just called over there, and after many many rings, I got a guy saying that they were closed, "cleaning" for "a few days"... The Dept. of Public Health's Food Inspection Reporting System had no information (yet).

That's too bad. Their sushi was just OK, but I always kind of liked that place. Decent food, reasonable prices, unpretentious. A dying breed in Wicker Park

A long while ago, a friend was briefly involved with the then owner, Jim Ho, in a business relationship. I recall hearing a few years later that Jim was allegedly involved in a plot to murder his wife, offering to pay one of his employees to complete the task.

Does anyone else know what happend? I'm fairly certain that I'm not just imagining this..

    acj,

I read the same thing in that bastian of fine journalism known as the Wicker Park Voice. Absoltely nothing ever happened w.r.t. the restaurant (until it got closed by the Health Dept, that is)

It's still there. Can't comment on the food or owner, however.

I've trying to call the restaurant but no one is answering the phone... The owner was Jim Ho and I'm not sure if it's still the same owner.

this was years ago(pre-Mirai), but I used to get no answer virtually everytime I called...it seems they'd shut down every once in awhile(for no apparent reason?...hmm...on second thought looking at this thread...)

dunno why exactly yr stuck on Pacific Cafe, but there's tons better Japanese to be found in that area
