    Hello,

:?: Does anyone know where a Japanese grocer, or any market with an extensive Japanese section, is located? We live up in Lake County, but am willing to drive a bit. My daughter is learning to cook Japanese food but is having a difficult time finding many of the ingredients she needs.

    Thanks. :)

If she's overjoyed now, wait 'till she sees the place in person! I still remember the first time I walked into Mitsuwa. It's an extraordinary store.

    HI,

There are other places to explore!

Another Asian market skewed toward Koreans is H-Mart at Oakton and Waukegan Roads next to Home Depot.

The original Post asked about a Japanese market, having shopped at both Mitsuwa and H-Mart, I can tell althoutn they do carry similar and some of the same products, one is uniquely Japanese and one Korean. The cusines and the people are not interchangable.-Dick

If you will note, I did state H-Mart was skewed to Koreans. However it is entirely possible this person may someday want to visit another Asian market. The information was offered in that spirit.

    Very near Mitsuwa is:

    Tensuke (True World)
    3 Arlington Heights Rd
    Elk Grove Village, IL 60007
    847-806-1200

If you head south on Arlington Heights Road from Mitsuwa, pass under the highway bridge it will be shopping center on the east (left). You can find some comments here.
