    Hi there,

I'm moving to the South Loop Friday and am having folks over to watch the fireworks on July 3rd. Since I will be recently moved, I figure pizza is the easiest thing to serve.

Any suggestions for a good pizza, preferrably thin crust, in the Taylor Street area. I did see the post on Masi's Superior Bakery, but one of the guests doesn't like Masi's...although that person might just need to deal with it because it looks good to me. So, aside from Masi's are there other places from which to order?

    Thanks,
    Katy

FWIW, the Pizza from Masi's is sheet pizza, with a thickish, bready crust, like the stuff at D'Amato's or Freddy's, not thin and crispy. And, I'm unsure of the hours, but I think they close rather early, so you'd probably have to pick it up that morning and reheat it.

I've never been impressed by any of the pizza available on taylor street, so I'd suggest Pat's in the south loop, Aurelio's (only if you like their very short crust and very sweet sauce), or Pizano's.

Not that I'm a fan, but if you're looking for a nearby stuffed pizza, there's a South Loop Edwardo's at 521 S Dearborn St.

I'll second that reco for Pat's on S. Clark St. for a fine thin crust pizza. When you place your order, tell 'em you have a $2 off coupon for a large pizza, when you go to pick it up, just tear the coupon off one of the menus on the counter.

We're a little south of the South Loop, in Pilsen. We've been on a search for pizza since we moved here and the only pie that we enjoy consistently, that delivers to us, is Falco's. I don't know if they'll deliver to you (depends how far north you are).

Masi's ordinarily has fresh bread and pizza only Thurs-Sunday, anyway.

When we lived in Printers' Row our usual thin crust pizza was from Trattoria Caterina on Dearborn. Not a destination place by any means but we preferred their pizza to Edwardo's thin crust. And Pat's on South Clark, in our experience, was so hopelessly incompetent in terms of taking orders that we just stopped bothering with them.

By the way, since this thread began with a focus on Taylor Street pizza, let me mention that Damenzo's on Taylor at Claremont has been closed since a fire swept through the building early Sunday morning. I expect they will be closed for a few weeks at least while repairs take place.

    Ed,

While I like Masi's sheet pizza I'm a real fan of their bread, in particular cornbread. Antonius has a lovingly* detailedMasi Italian Superior Bakery post, which touches on the Italian style cornbread as well.

Yeah, Masi's bread is the absolute star of the show. I wish I woke up early enough to grab a loaf or two in the morning, before they're sold out.

Gone. The place that replaced them focuses on Mediterranean dishes and sandwiches, altho I haven't seen their menu, so they might still be offering pizza.

Wow, thanks for the update, jbw. I understand that Gourmand cafe, further south on Dearborn, is also something else now. Perhaps you or someone else in the neighborhood can report on the new places when you get to them (not necessarily in this thread)?

I would definitely get Pats if you are looking for thin crust. We have had it at work a bunch of times and it is always excellent.

    FLASH!

Thanks Amata! Katerina's is still there. It's Gourmand that's been replaced.

If the monitors would remove my comment from from the thread, I'd appreciate it.

A co-worker called over there, they expect to be open soon, they were not as heavily damaged as originally thought.
