Village Restaurant - Indian/Pakistan Cuisine - Finally Open

Village Restaurant is finally open.

I went with two friends right around noon. There were about 2 or 3 people in line when we got there. When we left about 50 minutes later, there were about 20 people in line.

It took around half an hour to get our food. Hopefully these are just issues related to opening day.

I ordered the chicken curry. The curry was pretty tasty and had some spice to it. The three pieces of chicken I got were not that good. I think they use the thigh and breast pieces for the "boneless chicken" dishes. The pieces I got were around the backbone and did not have much meat on them.

My friends (both Indian) said their dishes (Chicken Makhni and Chicken Cholay) were not spicy and that the lassi did not have much flavor.

Prices for most dishes are between $6-7. I think they are open til 9 PM most days.

I'll definitely go back to try a different dish...but I'll probably go closer to 11:30 rather than 12.

I went to Village Restraunt yesterday.

WARNING: you may wish to wait a week or two, the service issues border on comic. The young man who was running the front had stepped away when I had first arrived, leaving the trainees to fumble about...at least when he returned apologies were being made and money returned for food not delivered.

As the OP notes, and several customers noted, the food is very lightly spiced...at least in terms of Indi-Pak food that I have had on Devon. I expect both the food and the service to improve shortly.

The young guy at the counter agreed, it will be a few weeks before they have their game on. However, it is a nice addition to my neck of the loop.

I can't say that I ever gave any serious consideration to the shops on the ground level of the Parking Garage across the street from Union Station...but the place looks like any other storefront.

I ate at Village Restraunt again today...although I went around 2pm to avoid the majority of the problems.

The samosa I had was good, even if served cold from a tray sitting on the counter. The saag paneer was really quite good, it is served with a choice of either rice or naan. Quite filling for an $8 lunch option.
