On a friend's recommendation, I am trying to construct a new (to me) delicacy at home: Chicken Tikka Masala Pizza. I'm trying to do it up right, so I'd like to find the spot with the best Tikka Masala in the city and give it a shot. I haven't been to too many Indian restaurants, so any rec's would be appreciated. I'll let you know how the pizza works out.

Well, no one's responded yet, so while I'm no Tikka Masala expert, I do like it when it makes the lunch buffet at Indian Garden on Ontario. I'm sure it's not the last word in Chicago Tikka Masala offerings, however.

I'd be interested in hearing more about this pizza...will you post the recipe on the Cooking & Shopping board if it's not copyrighted, and post pics when you make it?

You may also want to consider using a tandoori chicken, as opposed to the tikka masala, in which case Khan BBQ would further your cause (it's also the only tandoori chicken I've had in Chicago). There are a couple of Indo-Pak places in Toronto where I've had good versions of this "pizza" (the bread also comes out of the tandoor). You could add some caramelized onions, and various achars (pickles) or chutneys (maybe a drizzle of mint-yogurt). Unfortunately, since I don't live in Chicago, I don't have much to offer.

I guess it depends on where you live, but Klay Oven on Orleans by the Merchandise Mart has a good Tikka Masala. They don't deliver, but they do have take-out. My only thought is that the chicken might dry out on the pizza since its already ccoked in the dish. Maybe spread the sauce on a pizza, add some fresh cheese (something mild, like Mexican Queso Fresco) and let it cook. A few minutes before its done, spread the chicken on and maybe a little more cheese. That actually souds pretty good.

Although if it were me, I might do a Saag Paneer pizza. Saag Panner is cubes of fresh cheese in spinach sauce. Cook the dough until its crispy (maybe grill it?) and then spread on the spinach sauce and let it heat up, and at the end spread on some warm cubes of cheese. That sounds pretty good to me.

I saw a pizza similar to this on Fine Living. I forget the name of the show, something like the world at your table, or something like that, and an indian woman made an east v west pizza. You might try their website.

The guidelines for the recipe call for a thin layer of tikka masala sauce, a handful of chicken (from the tikka masala), and shredded mozzarella. I'll be posting pics assuming it's not a complete disaster. A little Saag Paneer pie sounds like it might work as well, i'll have to give that a shot.

Several years ago I had a chicken tikka pizza from Tahoora, but it was uninspiring. It might have been improved if it were a chicken tikka masala pizza, because I think that would have "spread out" the Indian flavor. As it was, it just seemed like a regular pizza with some chunks of chicken on it.

I can't recall the last time I was at Tahoora, so I don't know if they still offer it.

I think tahoora still has the pizza (and a few other places, somewhere on california comes to mind) unsurprisingly I' not that big a fan.

however for this purpose, I'd probably choose the Chicken tikka from Sher-A-Punjab. the tikka itself has usually been nicely spiced without being too hot and pretty juicy.

One thing I would think you would have to gaurd against somehow in this process is the chicken pieces which have already been cooked twice drying out on top of the pizza.
