A group I am with wants to hold an event for the next debate. I am looking for a restaurant or bar in the general downtown area (South loop to Lincoln Park) that has a private room and TVs and wouldn't be terribly expensive. Any ideas would be helpful!

Without knowing what kind of demographic you're looking for, it might be hard to custom-fit this request, but Delilah's might be able to take care of you.

I'm not that huge of a fan, but Bar Louie in Dearborn Station might work for you. Grace O'Malleys actually has a nice private room and good food, definitely better than Bar Louie but I'm not sure about the cost.

Perhaps not what you had in mind, but Lao Sze Chuan has two private rooms upstairs, both with bar and television. I think the smaller accommodates about 20 and the larger about 80, but I'm not certain.

Check O'Callahan's and the Jefferson tap. I know they have second floor rooms with TVs that they open for large groups (I don't know if they charge). Goose Island on Clybourn has two private rooms with TVs and I know they used to have a lot of of MeetUps there during the 2004 election. They didn't charge, and would put extra staff on to cover crowds over 25 or so.

Check out The Black Duck on Halsted just south of Armitage, they have a pretty nice room and good food:
