    Hey all,

Just about to set out on this pork dish:

And am curious where I could find banana leaves. Would Jewel have them? What about whole foods?

    Thanks for any help!

I'd be very surprised if you found banana leaves at WF or Jewel (though who knows; an exceptionally market-sensitive ordering person might stock them). I'd go to a Mexican grocery or even a Thai/Vietnamese place. I've bought them at Taqueria Nuevo Mundo (5901 W. Roosevelt, Cicero), which I mention only as an illustration of the kind of places that sell this leaf.

How far are you willing to travel? On Argyle St., you'll be able to find them. Maybe a local Mexican fruteria. They'll be in the frozen foods section.

    HI,

In the ethnic stores mentioned above, the banana leaves can be found in the freezer section.

Specifically, in the past, I have seen them at Edgewater produce in Andersonville.

On another note, I have found that conchita pibil can be produced equally well using a crock pot over the often recommended banana leaf and foil method. i made it by the crock pot method for a cinco de mayo party. The meat stayed very moist and was a big hit.
