I could not find a thread on Bistro Kirkou, so wanted to open my own. A few years ago we went to Bistro Kirkou and had a very enjoyable dinner. Things that truly stood out for us were the foie gras appetizer, the crab cake and the French Onion Soup.

In addition to being a corn chip snob, Mr eggplant is also a French Onion Soup snob, who tries it at every restaurant that has it on the menu. He pronounced the one we had at Bistro Kirkou the best one he's had so far, and I enjoyed it too.

The entrees were great as well, I don't remember what we had, though. The dessert was nice and fresh, it was the only thing that was good, not outstanding, like the rest of the meal.

We were thinking about going back recently, and after looking around I found out on Metromix that they are now known as Bistro 22: http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/even ... g_features

Has anyone been to Bistro 22? What did you think?

    Forgot to add the address:

We were there back in February and had a very nice meal. It was solid, though not spectacular. I don't remember many of the details but food was tasty, the environment was cozy and the service was excellent.

FWIW, I received an e-mail about their name change back on April 26, 2007:

e-mail wrote:When asked why the change in name Manager Kent Voss said, “We just thought it was time for a bit of an update. But about the only thing we are changing is the name. We will still have the same warm, inviting dining room and friendly, helpful staff.”

Chef Marc Montagna commented, “My staff and I will continue to work hard to keep your taste buds happy. Our menu will remain similar to what we have done in the past and will change as the season’s change, but we will be trying some new things as well. We’ll also be offering some new catering and carry-out options for you, Chef Montagna added. You can see what’s available on our website at:
    www.bistro-22.com .”

We will continue to accept Bistro Kirkou gift cards until June 30, 2007.

We thank you for your previous patronage and we will strive to be all that you have come to expect of us and will continue to work hard to make your dinning experience with us even more enjoyable.

Kirk Pepper the owner of Bistro Kirkou has some major medical issues
and I'd guess that he sold his stake in the restaurant.
Last time I saw him there he had recently had brain surgery to remove a tumor. When we last eat at Bistro 22 a member of the staff told us that Kirk was at home being taken care of by his dad....
