    HI,

A friend's son is getting married in Excelsior Springs, KS. She is looking for food recommendations for taking out of town guests from Australia, California, Washington and Illinois.

From scanning the internet, she found Wabash BBQ, though knows nothing about it. She is looking for any and all recommendations there may be for food in the area.

    Thanks!

    Regards,

    Hi Cathy,
Do you mean Bonner Springs Kansas or Excelsior Springs, Missouri?

    Hi,

She was specific it was Excelsior Springs, which is 31 miles away from Kansas City in Missouri. I didn't know it was a different state until you highlighted it.

    Any news?

I started a thread for you here:

I'm of no use as I'm in Oregon now, but pehaps Aaron can zoom this along.
It would be worth the Drive to Stroud's

Excelsior Springs is northeast of KC on Highway 69. As such, it is in a perfect position for a trip to Stroud's north location.

Outstanding fried chicken, real mashed potatoes, green beans cooked to within an inch of their lives with big chunks of salt pork strewn throughout, bowls of pudding thick country gravy and baskets of fresh cinnamon rolls all served in abundant family style in an old mansion on a narrow, rolling country road.

Make sure at least one of the members of your party gets the chicken fried steak. There'll be enough of everything for everyone to share.

Now that Stroud's has closed their 85th Street location, Oak Ridge Manor is a must stop for us whenever we're in town.

    Happy wedding,

P.S. After checking my Kansas City BBQ Pocket Guide, written by local greasehouse authority, Remus Powers, Ph.B.; I find nothing mentioned up in the Excelsior Springs area. The closest thing is Zarda's Bar-B-Q, 214 N. Highway 7, Blue Springs, MO. It's a good distance south of Excelsior Springs, but it's about the same distance east of KC.

Decent 'Que, nothing to get excited about, but if you want to avoid the mad hustle and bustle(?!?) of Kansas City, it's a good suburban outpost.
