Field Museum area - need recommendations

I'm taking my 12 year old son to the Field Museum sometime soon (within the next week or so) and while we're there, I'd like to hit either a casual gyro place or a good polish/dog/beef place. What would you all recommend that's within walking distance of the museum? I don't mind the driving, just not in the mood to donate even more to the parking authorities than I have to. The assistant is becoming more open-minded, foodwise, but still not overly adventurous, so I thought these would be good options.

We also visit museum campus fairly frequently - our favorite place to eat is the cafeteria in the Adler Planetarium, where the food is OK if overpriced, and the view is spectacular. Other suggestions in this thread

There's a pretty good hot dog stand right by the Planetarium, if you don't mind not having tables to eat at. Otherwise, your best bet is to drive to, say, Al's on Taylor for IB or Manny's for corned beef or pastrami, where you'll be able to park for free or cheap.

I don't know if it is still there, but when I used to work at one of the campus attractions, there was a hot-dog stand on the south side of the Field Museum that was excellent. The Adler, Field Museum and Shedd (in order of food quality IMO) all have food courts, but be prepared to pay meseum prices. There isn't much else nearby unless you don't mind walking a bit or taking the water taxi to Navy Peir.

I ate at a hot dog stand at the NE corner of the Field property earlier this Summer - and the hot dog I bought and ate there was excellent; no need to venture away from the Museum property. For ice cream, other snacks/beverages - there's a larger concession stand (small house-like structure) on the E. side of the Museum property, sort of between the Field and the Shedd.

Our Field Museum adventure went very well, really enjoyed the museum. as for the food aspects, we got our lunch from a hot dog stand between the museum and the aquarium (Kim and Carlos's if I'm remembering correctly). I had a polish and the assistant had a dog (he wouldn't go for Chicago style). Both were very tasty and the assistant was excited about getting to eat outside. Much, much better than eating from their food court (and I'm sure much cheaper too).
