So, here's the backstory. Last week my wife put on her "fruit salad" dress. I thought she looked very fine, but the newly teenaged daughter, being, well, newly teenaged, made a disparaging comment. Hell what hubby sez, off went the dress. On the other hand, knowing a good thing, my wife sez I need to take her out so she can wear the dress. The question is, where.

She wants fish. What's a localvore know about fish. I mean we aint going up to Port Washington WI for smelts*. Sushi is out as we have other sushi plans in the works, same for Chinese. We have North Pond on our short list for upcoming birthdays/anniversary, but she wants something tonight not as fancy.

I apologize to the community but with my focus on eating in, I'm just not following all the food threads. Can some one do me the solid and suggest a place for tonight. Thanks.

*Yes I know I had fish at Spoon Thai the other day that was not local. Consistency weakens my plea.

    VI,

I had Lake Superior Whitefish a few weeks ago at Sabatino's, lightly sweet flavor, meaty, a tasty example of local fish, delicious enough to make this Wisconsin boy smile.

    Enjoy,

VI, I had an excellent meal at Shikago last weekend, actually one of the best I've had in a long time; I think my blurb about it will be in tonight's Reader, and I also restrained my gush about it on this board and here:

We had several very fine fish.

If you have a bad time, I don't want to know. :D

If you want to dine local (if not eat local) one other suggestion: Trattoria 225 at 225 Harrison. Probably the best thing I had there was the arctic char, the "sustainable fish of the month."

el barco (1035 N ashland) has lots of seafood / fish and would fit into the not as fancy category... and nobody would look twice at a fruity looking dress

    1800 W. Montrose

And I recently had a wonderful fish dish (pistachio crusted halibut) at Cafe 28. It's Latin and festive, so you'd really stand out if you were not wearing a fruity dress.

    So...where did you go, VI?

    (I can't believe Halina's filled the bill).

Well, as it turned out, it was no dinner date, no fruit salad dress. It was beautiful wife and one beautiful daughter. And, it turns out, it was the beautiful daughter who likes Chinese. So, we went to Chinatown, KS Seafood, which I have nothing much to add. KS, as well stated on this board, is well worth the visit.

Thanks anyways for the suggestions, I'm sure we'll find time soon for fruit salad.

What is the significance of fruit salad in the dress, and why didn't the kid like it? What does it look like?
