Where to dine in Matteson, Il?

Hi all,



I'm looking for a nice place to dine in Matteson, Il. I've got a doctors appointment there and my wife and I have family watching our three kids. Since our anniversary is the following day we thought we would look for a nice place to eat.

I'm not really looking for any specific cuisine, but would like a place that really prepares the food well. Any suggestions?

There is so little about Matteson on this board, it is easy to summarize:

steak
pizza
gyros

Whatever you do, we'd sure love a report because it will add some data points where there are so few.

There is actually quite a nice variety of things within a 10-15 minute drive of Matteson. Here are a few of them, Sdritz also is in the area and can add several other places.

In nearby Olympia Fields, I have had some very nice meals at Burgundy Bistro. www.burgundybistro.com . Across the street from there is Flavor restaurant which has very good brunches on weekend, and live jazz on some weeknights www.flavorestaurant.com . Next door to that is Siam Thai which has very reasonably priced Thai cuisine (it is not in the caliber of the places in the City though).

Tinley Park is also a 10-15 minute drive, and you can spend quite a bit of time just trying and enjoying the very good Italian joints there. My personal favorite is Isabella Cafe (www.isabellacafe.com) which is located in a wonderfully romantic setting, and the Roasted Lamb Shank is tremendous. G-In is a Korean owned Japanese place that is in my regular rotation. Tin Fish is highly regarded for seafood, though I don't think it is very conversation friendly

In the H-F area, Flossmoor Station has some very good brews, and fair pub food. Sdritz could also tell you how Bamboo Blue is these days, I haven't been in a couple of years.

Mr. Benny's in Matteson is a nice "old school" steakhouse as mentioned in one of the threads Cathy links to.

If there are any specific types of food you are looking, let me know.

In chicago hieghts 5 mins to the east on us 30 is Carlo's http://www.lorenzettis.com/ . An old italian rest. with quite a history or should I say clientele. Stop in a month ago and was happy to see it hasn't changed. Try the Baked Stuffed Shrimp...
Large Shrimp topped with a crab meat mixture and mozzarella cheese then oven baked & served with drawn butter.

My 1st post and wanted to thank the members and mods for a great site. Only found you guys last week and already used a couple recommendations

I think any place I would have suggested has already been suggested on this thread. I have no idea when you plan to dine, but when you decide I would appreciate it if you would post back.

Another option, although not in Matteson, would be to go to Harlem and 183rd and dine at Tin Fish or G-In Sushi. While I have not eaten at G-In yet, I have heard rave reviews from friends.

We are heading to Tin Fish again tomorrow night.

Thanks for the recommendations! I was surprised to find so many restaurants within a small drive from the area we were in. We decided on two restaurants...Isabella Café and Burgundy Bistro.

We ended up choosing Isabella Café. When we first walked up we really didn't know what to expect...but this was a cute little place. I normally wouldn't order a lamb shank when out for dinner. I've learned my lesson far too many times with lamb shank and osso bucco not to order this type of entrée when were out (better off just making it at home). But, I ended up getting the roasted lamb shank, on glennpan's recommendation. It was pretty good...I was really surprised. The wifes Halibut was a bit over cooked, but still decent.

All in all...it was a nice dinner and good food.
