Dried porcini mushrooms were available at Produce World in Norridge yesterday for $9.99 lb. They were whole mushrooms, not very dark. [I hope they really are porcini, but I'm no mycologist. I looked and them and thought 'well, they could be' and promptly bought 2/3 lb.]

And if you're in the neighborhood, the Sicilian bakery is just around the corner. In addition to the fine cannoli, eclares, bread, pizza, arancini, etc., they've started carrying gelato in the summer. They said that they make it themselves. Being more oriented to beer calories than ice cream calories, I haven't tried it myself yet. But if you stop by Produce World for 'shrooms, go by Sicilian Bakery for desert.

Were the porcini mushrooms packaged at the store or were they a packaged product. Several years ago I purchased dired pocini mushrooms at a Cosco in Virginia at about the same price but haven't found them since.
