I'll be visiting someone at Loyola Hospital in Maywood this morning. I need a recommendation for a casual lunch place serving salads and sandwiches, that's also conducive to conversation. I was thinking Oak Park is not too far away.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Our family really likes Blue Max Cafe in Forest Park. Nice simple salads and sandwiches and excellent coffee. The owner is also a great baker....try the cornmuffins or morning glory muffins, if there are any left.
The restaurant is in a little house on Lathrop St.....you have to keep your eyes open for it, as it's easy to miss if you've never been there before.

Wow. I used to work there when it first opened under a different name. Too funny.
    Loyola nearby recs:
The New Salernos Just E of Harlem avenue on Roosevelt:

For something a little different, and right around the corner from loyola:

Prices are steeper than a hole in the wall tamale place. I can rec the chicken and rajas tamales, and the tinga.

The Forest Park places are closer than Oak Park:
    Jimmy's Place
    7411 Madison St., Forest Park
    Tel: (708) 771-7476
We cannot be friends if you do not know the difference between Mayo and Miracle Whip.

It's probably too late for you, unless you'll be making a return trip, but S3Kitchen on Oak Park Ave is a good spot, too.
