I've replaced the batteries in both cars recently, honest! I'll too help with the clean up. I will also have items such as a first aid kit and anything else you'd expect a good Boy Scout to carry.

Finally received the pinata which doesn't exactly look like what I ordered but it will do.

I'm 90% certain that Thor's Personal Assistant and I will be there (Thor will be with grandparents). Due to schedule constraints, my contribution will be a mish mosh of stuff. I plan to bring Heirloom Tomato Marmalade with Fresh Goat Cheese & 2 loaves of my bread, some organic wine, which is leftover from Purple Asparagus' benefit (reviewed on www.having-company.blogspot.com) and some red pepper catsup for a condiment.

Since I apparently cannot read - the organic wine will be saved for another purpose. Instead, I'll bring some sour cherry lemonade (which can be mixed with vodka for the over 21 crowd).

For the undecided: Definitely need some garbage bags and baby wipes.

Drove past the picnic grove today to find the parking lot in good shape. The shelter was filled with new picnic tables made of wook and metal. Much more sturdy than last years wobbly group. There was a port a potty near the picnic area. A bricks and mortar toilet was open for use.

    C2,

I'm bringing Buttermilk Brined Chicken, which I will hot smoke/roast on site.

Also picked up a Costco size plastic jar of red licorice, which I will bring along. That is, if there is any left by Saturday.

    Enjoy,

    Veloute,

There is no electricity there. However, I am going to a rummage sale tomorrow morning. One of my goals is to purchase an all-metal pot to reheat my stew on a grill. I am not planning to spend more than a dollar or two, so I could get another pot for your purposes.

Alternatively: if you have an insulater cooler, then you could also maintain it as a temporary heat stabile container: pour boiling hot water into the insulated container and let sit for five minutes. Empty insulated container, wipe dry and put your already heated containered food in there. Ball up newspaper to fill up the empty spaces, then come over to the picnic. This will hold for 3-4 hours.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

After much dithering, here's what I'm bringing:

a blueberry pie, so Leek has some competition for the pie contest

    Buns and condiments

I mentioned to d4v3 that I thought we were a little light on main courses, and I was going to get some brats or something at Paulina, and he said he was going to get some stuff like that, but I could get the buns, and I said okay, and I'll get stuff to put on 'em too so people can be their own Hot Doug's! (Or would that be Hot D0u9's?)

    So that's what we're a-doin'.

Turns out it will just be one for me, as my husband has to work that day. Also, I was hoping to make my world-famous coconut peanut butter oatmeal cookies, but was not sure if that would be kosher, considering that peanuts are an evil seed for so many.

That is the saddest thing I have read in this thread. Don't let the food nannies dissuade you. We're grown ups here. Those with alergies can avoid your cookies. Those with children who have alergies can watch over them.

Well, speaking only for myself (I know mhl is also a parent of a child with allergies), I certainly don't think the entire picnic needs to be nut-free and peanut-free! Please make and bring your special cookies, Suzy.

Lucantonio and I are absolutely used to inquiring about ingredients before he eats anything. So don't worry, we can navigate the offerings and he'll be safe.

    ****
By the way, the nammoorah (semolina cake) I'm making will be nut-free (also sesame-free, if that's a problem for anyone). But it will NOT be gluten-free, sorry!

Cookie and I (well, mostly Cookie) are making our homemade ice cream sandwiches. Two flavors: Mint chip ice cream with chocolate cookies. And milk chocolate ice cream with peanut butter cookies.

Peanuts and peanut butter abound in our kitchen over the past week.

Nothing we made is gluten- peanut- sugar- salt- or dairy-free.

I would think that it might be not that hard to label what's in our dishes. At the very least we plan to label what they are, yes? Instead of all of us trying to figure out what is that "mystery casserole with brown stuff" we know it's quinoi salad with vegetables. So a quick jotting down of ingredients might not be a bad thing. Those with allergies or whatever can easily avoid anything that isn't clearly safe. I don't think that's too strenuous a thing to do so that the people who can't eat peanuts or wheat can see if something's possible for them to eat.

Where between Bucktown and the picnic is a good place to pick up a few bags of Pita for the hummous, or is someone already bringing some? Or would folks prefer I bring some carrots to dip instead?

These cookies really are fantastic; I brought them to share with a class and instructor when we took the midterm, and I'm pretty sure they were the factor that bumped me into the A range.

For those who don't mind being ahead of the game, I started the 2007 picnic recipe thread early. Feel free to post your recipes as you have time.

Also, it would be a good idea to tag whatever dishes or utensils you want returned to you with both your screen name and real name, and I'd also suggest that everyone bring a serving utensil for each dish they're bringing. Easy to find disposables at grocery or party supply stores.

I also just noticed that, with the exception of hot dog buns and pita, we are almost completely without bread. Anybody near a good bakery who's dropping in at the last minute might want to consider bringing baguettes.

Also, I'm trying to keep the spreadsheet accurate, but please look for your screen name and make sure I'm somewhere in the ballpark for numbers and dishes.

There is a strong possibility that I am backing out of bringing the pecan tarts. We will definitely be there with the wild rice salad and lots of italian sausage from Hungry Hill -- the fennel and the hot. And a couple dozen sausage rolls from LaBriola.
