Nothing like waiting to the last minute to decide what to bring.

I will bring a gluten-free apple pie, Tortilla Espanola, and some gluten-free buns for Veloute and Mr Views. I will do my best to get Mr Views there early so I can help with set-up.

For the record, I don't even like peanut butter cookies all that much. It's just that all this talk about acute allergies and such now has people gun shy about bringing their favorite recipes to the picnic. I hate to see that. The picnic is about sharing our favorite foods. As I pointed out in a PM earlier, there are several foods that I can't eat, but I police myself and don't make a big deal out of it. I'm sure most people with allergies do the same.

With the help of my sister Vikki chipping in, we'll be bringing a composed salad of: Jumbo Lump Crab Meat, Grilled Asparagus, Grilled Corn, Mango, Avocado and Hearts of Palm with Toasted Pine Nut Viniagrette.

    That sounds fabulous.

Jeez, sorry jazzfood. I read the recipe, and was so dazed by a vision of its deliciousness, that I hit "edit" instead of "quote."

    Cathy,

Could you please share the address for Forest Glen Preserve. It would help me MapQuest the location and thereby ensure that my caponata and I make it to the right picnic.

    Thanks!

I arrived home to find my younger daughter lying on the couch, glassy-eyed, with a fever and coughing. The older one was in her room with a migraine and a sore throat. It now looks doubtful that we will be able to attend.

If they both make miraculous recoveries we will show up with sausage and rolls, but it's looking grim.

I realize that I am jumping in at the 11th hour (quite literally), but was thinking about dropping by early afternoon. Since I am coming up from the south suburbs, I can possibly stop by Uncle Johns for a case of hot links if that is of interest. If there is something different that makes more sense I will check the board in the morning before I get underway.

You are welcome to attend. Uncle John's hot links sound divine.

I'm not sure we can smoke them, but they can certainly be grilled. Perhaps Gary or someone else can comment on this issue.

I found the time to make my pie, so I'm bringing it as well. You will have to guess the ingredients (though it won't be that hard) Seems to me we now have enough pies to have an informal version of eatchicago's idea? Whaddaya think, Michael?

Since Sparky has a soccer game just before the picnic, I will try to bring our pop-up soccer goal and a ball (if somebody else has another pop-up goal, that would be great) I also am bringing an old washtub that can be used for ice and drinks, some extra picnic silverware I found, and a few other odds and ends, and if there's single-serve juices left over from soccer I'll bring those.

Anybody dropping by might want to bring extra ice; you can never have too much of that.
