    LTH,

Yes, I know, as Steve Z likes to say, always spell check the Tattoo artist before he starts with the needle and never eat at a place called Mother's. After breakfast at Mama's in San Francisco I'm wondering if the latter is really such good advice.

Food sparkles with freshness, everything house made, grainy breads, fresh berries, pancake batter, special omelets, casual interior, spot-on service, timely coffee refills, friendly staff, every customer looking happy.

Bride's shrimp and avocado omelet was loaded with briney fresh shrimp, french toast eggy and rich, bacon thick cut and crisp, baguette toasted to perfection, over easy eggs cooked perfect, mixed berry jelly on the table and two kinds of hot sauce.

20 minute wait at 9am Thursday morning, which I understand is short. Lunch is served, but they close at 3pm

    Enjoy,

As if I needed another reason to try and get back to San Francisco. That food looks amazing, I wish I would have known about that place before I went out there earlier this year.

    Thanks for the post.

Boy oh boy! Did we eat at the same place? On our last trip we ended up at Mama's based on all the recommendations, reviews, etc. we received and were significantly underwhelmed. Glad you liked it--and glad you had such a great time at Piperade. As the previous link explained, we picked the one meal (Saturday lunch) they were closed for :(

If you still have an open meal, try Aziza's; it was easily our single favorite meal while there.

P.S. Funny...we took pictures of the post-breakfast tai chi crowd in the park, too.

Same holds true for Dottie's True Blue Cafe in Union Square, Dottie's is my fave

This place, along with Mother's Fish House in Maui, are the exceptions that prove the rule. You did spell check that tattoo you got down on Castro Street, didn't you?

Don't forget Mother's Bistro & Bar in Portland, an amazing brunch place downtown.

Now defunct (Mama wore herself out, I think), a place called "Mom's Cookin'" was a great place for Mexican food in San Francisco.

Fresno, on the other hand, has (had?) a good ribs place called "Not Yo Mama's"....
