We were up in Stowe, VT, over the weekend, and I finally made it back to the Austrian Tea Room after a long hiatus. The Austrian Tea Room is part of the Trapp Family Lodge, a well-known resort high above the village of Stowe. Between the extraordinary views from the outdoor deck to the delicious alpine mushroom soup to the traditional warm potato salad to the sweet Austrian bread to the enormous knockwurst with two kinds of mustard, my meal was one I won't soon forget.
The icing on the cake (no pun intended), however, was the black forest cake that I had for dessert. It was an unbelievably tasty pastry; dark chocolate cake layered with chocolate whipped cream and cherries, and with whipped cream, shaved dark chocolate, and candied red cherries on top.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here goes (a larger photo can be seen upon clicking on this photo).
