Last night's dinner at Shish-ka-bob Shack was delicious. Many thanks to UniAddict for setting this up.
Dinner started with a variety of appetizers on the table, hummous, baba ganouj, pickled turnips and fresh pita bread. For one of UniAddict's friends at the table, this was her first introduction to middle eastern food and it was obvious she was enjoying it very much.
We had lentil soup, very nicely flavored, followed by a salad of chopped tomatoes, cucumber, lemon, olive oil and fresh herbs. It was clear that the salad had not been sitting around all day and was prepared for us while we were enjoying the soup.
Everyone ordered the combination plate, although some opted to share it. For under $10, it was a terrific bargain -- chunks of grilled beef and chicken, kifta kabob and schwarma with a mountain of rice. There were cups of a yogurt based sauce and a green spicy sauce on the table for people to season their meals with as they chose. We followed our meal with some turkish coffee.
Unfortunately, nobody brought a camera to our repast and there are no pictures. I would have taken a photo of my leftovers, but I did not think it would do them justice.
As UniAddict noted in a post above, this restaurant is moving north. While they said it would be at the end of the month, I think they meant October rather than September.
Both the meal and the company were terrific. We are going to try and hit this place again in a couple of weeks.
