Went to Rique's in Uptown last night and had the feeling that things have changed, and not in a good way. The menu was different, less variety, and there were no Saturday regional specials. While the complimentary black beans were still served for a starter, the accompanying chips were muy overfried -- and this is with just ourselves and one other couple in the restaurant. They no longer had brewed iced tea; just artificially-sweetened Nestles in a can, which we found strange. Barbara's almond mole with chicken was a much smaller portion than we recalled -- a very thinly-pounded half breast at most -- with hardly any almond flavor in the mole. My chile relleno entree was flavorful, but not particularly generous. We passed on dessert. No sign of chef Enrique.

I didn't ask our server about changes/alterations, and should have. Does anyone know if Enrique still the chef? Are there new owners? If they indeed are heading downhill, I'm not heading back.

No, Enrique is no longer the chef. I was there the beginning of the summer and met the owners - husband wife team - he's the chef - can't remember their names. They claimed they were going to keep the majority of things the same. ??? We thought it was pretty good, but not as good as before.
