I really didn't care for the cake that much. What stood out for me was the beans and rice and the cabbage.

If suggestions are being taken, i'd like to add Cafe Suron @ 1146 W Pratt.

There is a thread about it but i don't know how to link :(

It is also for sale so it would be nice to try it out in case it is sold.

Unfortunately, Cafe Suron is not open for lunch. If anybody would like to put together an evening event there, I would be happy to attend, bottle in hand. I really like that place and the brothers that own it. I'm bummed it is being sold.

I'm married with two children and I'm a lawyer. If you want to tease me about my decisions... well, take a number, get in line and be prepared to wait a while.

I'm now leaning towards Bombay Kabob House since it hasn't been done before and perhaps we should try it out before they (hopefully don't) close. It often looks too empty and it has a big footprint - rent must be high. Me thinks Mandarin House will be around a while longer.

Did you know there is an LTHforum Flickr group? I just found it...

My 2 cents worth: I concur with ChgoMike's statement above (that's 1 cent) and 11/13 works for me (that's the 2nd)....

Before we depart this thread for that of next month's lunch, I'd like to say thank you to GAF for organizing our Claire's outing. I finally got to try curried goat, something I've been putting off for too long because I was afraid it might be--well--too goaty. But instead it was delicious! I was even game to try the cows' feet, but (maybe fortunately) they were not available on Tuesday. I think my other favorites were the beef patty and the cabbage. I would agree that the spice, especially in the jerk chicken, could be kicked up a notch.... I used to get jerk chicken from a place on Howard called El Dinamico Dallas--it was near the Caribbean-American Bakery (but that was quite a while ago, and I don't even know if it is still there). Now that was eye-watering, mouth-watering, heartburn-inducing spicy jerk chicken (IMO)!
[I decided to go to Howard Thursday to check out the bakery---beef patties-yes!---and Dinamico Dallas indeed appears to be long gone....]

As to the relative tastiness of the caramel cake: We ordered 3 slices for the 6 of us, and when they gave us 3 HUGE slices, GAF (I think it was) commented that we could have ordered just one slice and split it 6 ways. Yet somehow I think all of that cake disappeared.... [In the spirit of full disclosure, I must admit--being already too full of curried goat, rice and beans, and cabbage--I took home the sole surviving portion of cake. Maybe I should have offered it to ChgoMike....]
