We've had a hard time finding good Chinese since moving to the suburbs -- any suggestions? I searched the site and came up with spots in Evanston/Skokie, but would love to find something closer to Highland Park.

    Hi,

You may want to check out the home-style cooking, according to CrazyC, of the alternative menu at Szechuan Kingdom, which is in Deerfield/Northbrook in the same plaza as Trader Joes.

CrazyC very kindly translated their Chinese menu. Bring this with you because otherwise you will be presented the American-Chinese menu.

Thanks, Cathy, that sounds like just the thing. The braised beef and tofu casserole sounds wonderful.

And thanks, CrazyC, for the menu translation.

Just a few minutes farther down Waukegan Road from Szechuan Kingdom, you'll find Dragon Inn North in Glenview. It's a charming, pagoda-like affair where they serve up very pleasing, carefully prepared Mandarin and Szechuan dishes. In fact, it's a descendant of the famous Dragon Inn of Homewood which was, when it opened in 1971, the very first authentic Mandarin restaurant in the Chicagoland area. Jeanette, the very gracious owner/host, will accommodate your every request and, if you introduce yourself, will most likely remember you by name next time you come in.

Just can across a list of the 100 best chinese restaurants
in the country. Don't know who can up with it but they
named Bob Chin's (chinese owned?) and Best Hunan.

Thanks again for all the recommendations. We may not make it to any of them before Thanksgiving, but my husband and I are especially psyched about the casserole at Szechuan Kingdom. A good Chinese casserole comes close to the top of our list for restaurant comfort food.

Will report back when we get to one (or more) of these.
