I've only been on LTH a few months and I felt a surge of pride seeing GWiv get such a high profile award. Congrats for all you do that makes you so deserving of recognition!

Gary, sorry to get in my kudos so late in the game; just got back from a late night at the office and saw this thread for the first time now. Enough about me, though. Your devotion and unstinting oar-pulling have at last been rewarded by general renown through this wonderful token of public acclaim. Congratulations, and thanks for launching the SS LTHForum and keeping her afloat, on course, and (more or less) on point at all times!

    Prof Wiviott.

We've only met a couple of times. Each time, you have impressed me with your culinary knowledge. But it is your sincere willingness and desire to share all that information that has really gained my respect. Congratulations!!

What a fine piece of recognition for the work of Gary and this community.

It is amazing what a short time ago it was that a relatively small band of food explorers posted on chi.eats and Chowhound, often lamenting the poor coverage the mainstream press gave to the kinds of places we love here.

It is incredibly rewarding to have, not just the recognition that our members have received this week, but the concomitant "mainstreaming" of the kinds of places we have all worked so hard to promote and celebrate.

    Cheers!

Congratulations from me, too. I always enjoy reading your posts and think this honor is well deserved.

Thanks to this site alone, my FoodIQ has increased exponentially. For this and many other reasons (I now know which side of the BBQ fence I side on, for example) I say many thanks to good sir Wiviott.

This is as good a place as any to also extend my thanks to the entire LTH community as a whole - it is the fault of every last one of you that I can no longer fit into my dress slacks.

    Truly a fantastic achievement.

I cannot even begin to express how much LTHForum has broadened my culinary horizons. I've eaten at and enjoyed so many places that I never would have found on my own because of this forum. My friends also never complain when I whip out my handy-dandy pocket GNR guide to find places to eat while traveling about the City.

Gary and everyone else behind what makes LTH great are to be seriously congratulated.

LTHforum would be nothing if nobody participated, read and went to the restaurants we love to talk about.

My WSM and I send you our most grateful congratulations, Gary.

Woo hoo! First I'm seeing of this (missed the Trib yesterday). And thank you THANK YOU all - most especially Gary and all the folks involved in founding LTHForum.com - but all of you, us, who turn me onto great places to eat, challenge my opinions, make me think, and have made Chicago and the world so much better for being in it.

Just the other day I found myself admiring the GNR list (and classy, professional design of the awards) - and realized how well-organized and well-run this community is - everything is always done right and with an eye on the bottom line. That is, GOOD FOOD. Kudos to Gary and all those involved with running LTH.

I finally caught up w/my newspapers and read the article last night. Congrats, Gary! Thank you a thousand times over, LTH, for enhancing my eating experiences in Chicago and beyond! This has become my go to resource for all things food related.

    Cito,

I'm the maven behind the maven. :)

Seriously though, I have gotten much satisfaction out of teaching people, both those I know and those I've never met, the basics of Low and Slow BBQ.

Also, if they dub you a Maven I've betting your BBQ is pretty damn good, we are often our own harshest critics.
