Not sure if anybody in LTH has tried Station House Subs as yet, but I stopped there for lunch today. It is off Randall Road, Algonquin, IL in a small strip mall, not easy to get to but well worth stopping.

This place has got to have the best oven toasted sub sandwiches in Chicagoland. I happened to have a Roast Beef sub and they put garlic spread on the Turano roll first and ran it through the toaster oven, then topped it with sliced roast beef, cheese, Horseradish sauce, lettuce and tomato, this thing was great......

    Is that similar to Quizno's?

If there's one thing that turns me off cuisine-wise it's this trend towards "family-feel"...whatever the heck that is...yeah, yeah..I know what they're going for...but, ick...

Here in Indianapolis not a day goes by w/o another crappy pizza joint/wrap place/soup and salad dungeon opening where the benighted proprieters feel the need to designate a "family" environment...

I tend to imagine most places are family-friendly if "family" intends chirren and the chirren are well-behaved(and/or the parents remain in control)

...otherwise...does this idiotic trend to designate a place "family-friendly" (and that's right up there with that hoary cliche "family values") imply there'll be no Hustler pinups on the walls, relatively-little bathroom cocaine abuse(reserved for it's rightful place outta sight in the kitchen), no higher-order discourse regarding the phenomenological construction of subs?

I think wbehrens and the three Behrens co-owners are very family-friendly, if you know what I mean.

ok, if you're stuck in algonquin, there's a decent indian place next to the Butera on the east side of town. giordano's is on the west side. i grew up there..but thankfully left about 20 years ago...my parents still live there. you can pick up some kielbasa at a little deli across from st margaret's catholic church. barrington bistro is a 20 minute drive.

wbehrens.....could the "w" be for William....otherwise known as Bill.....like the Bill Behrens who is identified as a "co-owner"????
Just putting it out there...I could be completely off-base

All sandwiches are $5.39. Make it an Inferno Meal and add chips or a salad and a fountain drink to any sandwich for $7.89.

i think i need to trade in my hot dogs for sub sandwiches if that is what they are charging.

I have seen these guys "advertising" on some other message boards. I am not sure how they think that we wouldn't recognize that they are shilling their own shop with this blatantly obvious topic.

Now... If you are looking for some interesting toasted subs in the burbs, try Rammy's Sub Contractors (locations around the west/northwest burbs) There are somewhat inconsistent, but when they are on, they are quite yummy. I am also a fan of Captain Nemo's Subs who just closed their Buffalo Grove location (more stores in the city and north burbs). They have a great secret sauce, and really pile up their subs they way you would if you made one at home to sit down to watch a football game with.
