Grabbed a 6 pack of what I assume is a new to Chicago winter seasonal ale at the FoodSmart on Armitage near Humbolt. For some back story, I'd rather drink PBR than Fat Tire but I do like many of their other brews and the bottle description of "...bright warming blast of Sterling and Liberty hops along with tawny-roasted malts... ...Dry hopping during fermentation creates a bright, hoppy palate and a cheery warm afterglow." Okay, it sounded good at the time.

What does it taste like? I'll tell ya, it has that same nasty mushroom aftertaste of a Fat Tire and the hop nose of a Budweiser. Honestly, it is like a Fat Tire with a winter label. WTF?

So, if you like Fat Tire and prefer a winter label over that bike, you found a great new beer. Enjoy!

Somebody brought a six of that to my house. I gotta tell ya, it is a strange beer. I get a sweetish malty mapley kind of flavor, like Maypo or maybe Ovaltine. Mushrooms? Maybe, but I would have to drink it agaian to be sure, and I doubt that will ever happen. I am not a big fan of sweet beers, but I have never tasted one quite like that. I can see how some non beer drinkers might like it.

I didn't taste mushrooms... I picked up some a few days ago, last weekend when it was quite chilly. Seemed a bit hoppy on the aftertaste to me, and a bit more aggressive than what I usually drink, but it did feel quite a bit like drinking a beer outside in CO in January.

To me, it felt like that in a good way. Whether that'd feel like a good or a bad thing to you is an open question - but a beer that feels like it'd be appropriate for standing around in a 2 below night.
