Does anyone have a favored, reliable source for these treats? I've tried a bunch of them (sourced locally and via internet) and none have really wowed me. So far, I have to say that Goodies in Highland Park are my favorite but they larger than I prefer and there must be better ones out there.

Does anyone have a favorite source for them; one that they really love?

    Thanks,

I love the chocolate covered pretzels at Ricci Nuts. They are not the high-gloss tempered chocolate covered, but rather a thick layer of chocolate that will melt in your mouth (or in your hand). The chocolate is not the best quality, but what makes them is the freshness of the pretzels.

I like the chocolate-covered peanut butter filled pretzels bites they sell at Trader Joe's. (Haven't had them in awhile so I can't use the word "love" in good conscience.)

    Two "used-to"s -

The Apple Haus in Long Grove "used to" have a delicious dark chocolate and homemade toffee chip-covered pretzel, but I haven't been there in years and am unsure what's shaking there now.

Petersen's Ice Cream in Oak Park also had wonderful house-dipped pretzels in three kinds of chocolate and two kinds of yogurt, but since they've scaled back, the chocolates in the display counter seem somewhat long in the tooth and I see no evidence of stuff being made freshly in the back anymore.

Thanks, for the responses. I ordered some bridge mix from Ricci last Christmas season and I know exactly what you mean, figmolly, about their chocolate. I'll have to give those a whirl.

I do have relatively easy access to Trader Joe's and Long Grove (where we visit with some regularity), so I'll put those prospects on the list, as well.

I'll report back here as warranted.

I got a gift of Fretzels by Jill last year that were very good.

    Another used to...

When FAO Schwartz had a bulk candy store in Water Tower (called FAO Schweetz), they sold a chocolate covered pretzel ball. I thought it was the perfect ratio of chocolate to pretzel to salt. (The pretzel ball was about the size of a gumball.) I would easily go through a pound or more a week. Not the highest-quality chocolate, but still delicious.

I agree, these are addicting, but oddly I did not enjoy my last bag as much - I dunno if it wasn't fresh or just a bad bag. I really love their dark chocolate pretzels too.

This sounds like an offer I can't refuse! I'm a milk chocolate-loving kind of guy. :D

    I can reciprocate with charcuterie.

I really like the ones at Trader Joe's. Not peanut butter, just your standard chocolate-covered pretzels. Available in milk chocolate and in dark chocolate. Yum!

For the record, in his Grab Bag column this week at New City Chicago's web site, LTH'er Mike Nagrant says that the deluxe, chocolate covered pretzels, known as 'American Gems,' from The Great American Pretzel Company, are worth checking out, too.

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions. Acquistion and research phases should begin soon
