We live in Roscoe Village. My wife is going out with her girlfriends for a night out. Can you recommend a fun, happening place fairly close to Roscoe Village? Prefer not in RV, North Center or Lincoln Square--she would love to get out of the 'hood for a night. Looking for a great atmosphere with unique food. THANKS. I owe her a good night out!

My recommendation is the Bucktown / Wicker Park neighborhood. It is within a taxi ride from RV, and has a lot to offer for food and entertainment. For great sushi, go to Mirai http://www.miraisushi.com/, but make reservations. Best sushi in Chicago, but expensive. Upstairs for cocktails is very trendy, but smoky. Caffé Gelato closes as the end of Oct, so try to go there for desert. The girls can try one of the several bars across the street on Division. Adobe Grill is another alternative for dinner (less expensive than Mirai) http://adobogrill.com/wickerpark/ on the South side of Division.

For Italian in Wicker Park, try Club Lucky http://www.clubluckychicago.com/. Not the best Italian in the city, but good for a group of ladies. I would also recommend Feast (but it has been a while since I have dined there) at http://feastrestaurant.com/. They can then go to the Artful Dodger at 1734 W. Wabansia, open til 2 AM. No cover and house music for dancing in the back.

    Enjoy

Thanks so much for the recommendations. Can you recommend any newer places in Bucktown/Wicker Park. We have eaten at all the places you recommended. Looking for something new and fun...along the lines of Green Zebra, Hot Chocolate...

I love Hot Chocolate for a Girl's Night Out - Outstanding chocolate martinis and large sharable desserts. The Hangar steak is nothing to sneeze at either. I went with 5 women and sat at the bar. We shared everything.

They also have a very nice wine by the glass selection.

I do like Hot Chocolate. You might also have fun at Bluebird, followed by The Violet Hour (use the search function for threads and addresses).

The Artful Dodger, one of my all time favorite Chicago bars closed July 16, 2005 after 21 years in business.
