I was at LTH last night hoping that I'd find some really good food. But when I got there I realized that I did not know what to order. So I just got cheap food over rice -- salt and pepper pork and curry chicken. I was not impressed.

So I was wondering if you guys could give me some suggestions so I can see what the rave is about.

Time for a review of Gary's favorite thread:

You have to know the right technique and LTHSL (Little Three Happiness Sign Language) to get the good stuff:

Here is my ordering technique, pretty much verbatim. Crisp (make breaking motion with hands) rice noodle, chow fun, with BBQ pork and roast duck, very light gravy, mixed veg and crisp (once again make breaking motion with hands) rice noodle. Light gravy please.

My first completely non-abominable, totally delicious, belly busting meal at LTH is a veritable what and how to oder at LTH. This meal came about as a result of my informing Gary after a year and a half or so on this list, that I had never actually been to LTH because I didn't quite know what to order. Gary was kind enough to put together a lunch for me to try some of his favorites. I'd like to pass the favor along now that I have been educated. If you haven't been able to sample the true delights of LTH, I'll do my best to get some folks to go down and order some of the tried and true favorites, though you can probably just print out the thread linked above and say, "I'll have that!" and get the same thing.

I had my first meal today at LTH for lunch. I am by no means an expert on asian food but I have eaten my way around chinatown, have my favorites (I love the Phoenix, Shui Wah and LSC) and consider myself to be a food lover at the very least.

I so so so want to love this place as it has been so eloquently praised on these web pages by people who have opinions on food that i seem to generally agree with...maybe I am just missing the point or I dont like Cantonese food as much as other styles of chinese food. I printed out Michael/EC last great meal at LTH list referenced in another post and ordered from there almost exclusively (I did order a Steamed BBQ Pork bun off the dim sum menu as that is my all time favorite thing to eat anywhere)

We had Shrimp toast, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Rice Noodles (crisp) with duck and vegetables and steamed rice. I mentioned this site to the waitress in the hopes that might mean something (i dont know G Wiv so i felt funny about dropping his name--what if he was right next to us--i dont know) and they looked at me like i was from Mars.

The shrimp toast, while large, was fried/sauteed in oil that tasted like it hadnt been changed in weeks, the Shrimp, which i asked for extra hot/extra peppers head and tail on was kinda bland and the noodles were gloopy. Everything tasted pretty decent, i was hoping to have my socks blown off.... maybe i dont get it....I will try again, any other suggestions on what to order? Maybe I might have to beg for an "LTH" guide.../sigh

The crispy skin chicken is easily my favorite thing at LTH. I highly recommend it.

I've only eaten at LTH 4-5 times, so my experience isn't vast. But that's really the only dish that stands out for me, even though there are others I like well enough.

I think I'm with you on though on Cantonese, so maybe that's the deal.

As much as I want to try other dishes at LTH, the crispy skin chicken and salt and pepper shrimp are just way too orgasmic to pass up for anything else.

Thats what I was hoping for...next tine ill try the crispy skin chicken. I found the shrimp plain tasting even though i asked for extra hot/extra peppers. i think cantonese is the issue for me
