Okay, I do this every year, my mom's b-day is 11-1, so we always go to the museum and out to lunch, or dinner. Just want to know if there is something new (or old) to try. Don't want to go to Neuvo Leon, went to Mundial Cocina last year, a couple years ago went to Polo. Looking for something authentic, but maybe a notch above of a taqueria. Any suggestions? Muchos gracias!

What about La Quebrada, on Cermak Rd. just W. of California, have you been there before? It's a storefront restaurant featuring Guererro-style cooking.

I expect to be at the Museum Saturday most of the day for a special program concerning Afro-Mestizos (which also includes a cooking demonstration) and may stop at La Quebrada for an early dinner afterwards.

Here's one of several discussions about the restaurant:

We went last year with Sparky and enjoyed ourselves immensely (did Nuevo Leon afterwards, so I'm not much help there) So far, even with the best of intentions we haven't returned, but I intend to if for nothing else the beautiful calacas in the giftshop.

FYI - they are hosting a recipe contestwhich ends on Halloween.
