Wok's Cooking in Deerfield

Last night my wife and I decided to stop by Blackie's in Deerfied for a bite. We noted a new Chinese restaurant in the shopping center called Wok's Cooking. So we decided to give the restaurant a try but with some trepidation. When we arrived at around 7 pm, there couldn't have been more than 15 customers in the place. So we were a bit concerned about what our experience would be like.
Boy, were we surprised!
We ordered their egg rolls and they came cut in half on the bias so you could see the ingredients. I feel that one of the tests of a Chinese restaurant is the quality of their egg rolls. Lots of pork was evident but the won ton was a little under cooked. I like them a bit crispier. I've never had a mustard sauce as spicy as theirs! My wife uses it straight. I don't know how she does it!
We also had the sizzling rice soup for two. Very nice. Besides the rice, there was chicken, water chestnuts and lovely mushrooms.
We only order one entree - the Mongolian Triple. It's just what one would expect - shrimp, beef and chicken over tiny crisp rice noodles. Nice sauce.
Normally we order more food so we can try different things and have leftovers. Unfortunately our refrigerator isn't functioning properly and needs work so we didn't want any leftovers.
If the rest of the food is as good as what we tried, then they're a winner.
Wok's Cooking has been opened only 6 months and I hope they continue.
One little aside - My wife ordered a long Island Iced Tea. It took a while to arrive. When we inquired about it, our waitress mentioned that they don't make too many drinks and the person making my wife's drink needed to look it up! My wife told me it was excellent and only $6.
Their prices are competitive and were expect to return. We might go back tonight since our refrigerator won't be fixed until Friday.
They're in the same shopping center as where the Secy. of State driver's licensing office is located at the first stoplight just west of Waukegan on the south side of Lake Cook Rd.

One of my secret joys in life is super hot nasal clearing Chinese mustard, sounds like Wok's has the goods.

Liked the way you set the location of the restaurant by referencing the shopping center with the Secy. of State driver's licensing office. I am not all that familiar with the area, but now know exactly where Wok's is located.

I work very close and am now planning a lunch visit. Always mean to stop in to grab a menu on my way to Cooker's next door for lunch time grease, but it's never panned out right. Hmmm. Maybe today's the day.

Please let me know whether or not you like Wok's Cooking.
I didn't plan on reviewing it or I would have paid more attention to the food and asked a few more questions of the waitress. But based on what we ordered, we definitely are planning to go back.
Their menu is extensive and some of the dishes I haven't seen anywhere other than Chinatown in Chicago and some great Chinese restaurants in Yokohama, Japan.
(BTW - If you want great Chinese food without going to China, you must try the restaurants in Yokohama's Chinatown. When the Chinese settled in Yokohama in the late 19th century to work in the shipping industry, they brought their culinary skills. Over the years, they've perfected the food because of the Japanese desire for extreme quality for their yen. But I digress. This is a forum for Chicagoland, isn't it? )
I tried looking for a website for Wok's Cooking and I can't find one.
Anyone else have any experience there?

in my experience, the place seems to have some relation to Yu's Mandarin of Schaumburg. The menu reflects some Korean influences (like the gampong chicken wings).

Well, today was the day. Went with a carryout lunch special. Price was 7.05. Dine in lunch specials include soup. Carry out orders do not.

Better than most. Actually, pretty darned good!

"Fried" rice - F-
This they took no pride in. Yes, I'm sure that if you order fried rice rice off the menu, then it would probably be made to order, and the stuff that comes along with the lunch specials was probably made in vat format, but this stuff was very lackluster. Rice, peas, egg, seasoning. That's it.

Beef w/ mixed vegetables (extra spicy)
Decent. Nothing special. I would hope and assume that a sit down dinner off the menu would be better. I would definitely go back and try something more adventurous hoping that they put more pride / effort into those than the lunch special standard fare. They list a pretty standard variety of lunch specials grouped by meat:
Chicken, pork, vegetable = 5.95
Beef = 6.50
Seafood = 7.50
They also offer a few seafood noodle lunch specials which they list as being prepared with "homemade noodles." I was not in the mood to risk chewy squid, and overcooked shrimp, but they did seem compelling to me.

I think next time, I'll see if they know what's up with a simple chow fun.

I picked up my daughter and her friend in Deerfield and they were starving, so we drove along Lake Cook Road until we found some food. We ended up at Wok's Cooking.

As others have mentioned, the place was empty when we arrived at 1:00 today. There was one other patron. While we were eating another couple came in.

We ordered wonton soup (for the girls) and egg drop soup (for me). Soups were very good. My daughter ordered orange chicken, her friend ordered mongolian beef and I had the chicken chow fun. I specified that they cook the noodles extra crispy, but despite those instructions on the ticket, they came out without any crunch to them. Everything was very fresh and tasty, and we would be happy to go back if we find ourselves in that area again. Portions were very large and we have enough leftovers for a whole other meal in my refrigerator. My daughter asked me to let you know that she thought everything was "pretty," from the room to the entrees.
