Believe it or not, after my
orchard outing on Sunday my friend created one of these. Inspired by I don't know what, he fried up a mess of (cinnamon) bacon from Ream's and chopped it up and sprinkled it in with the apples. (For bonus something-or-other he threw in one of those small sheets of caramel that can be used to make easy caramel apples)
Anyway, sad to say, it really didn't come out that well. It seems as though there was some unfortunate interaction between the very tart apples and the porky-salty bacon flavor that raised a flavor not entirely unlike bile in the back of one's throat.
On the other hand, wrapping little bits of cooked bacon in some of the very thin apple slices before they were seasoned and cooked was really tasty.
