Okay, another event in this already crowded season…

Antonius, Lucantonio and I will be at Healthy Food for lunch at 12:30 on Friday, November 2 to present Healthy Food with their GNR. We would be pleased to have the company of more LTH-ers! Please reply to this thread if you are interested, so we can let the restaurant know how many to expect.

    thanks,
    Amata

I plan on being there. I've also got the official certificate, which I'll bring with along with a camera, so you can present it.

Are you sure? In a fit of pride and displaced ownership, I fear I snagged the Healthy Foods certificate. Since I am currently a few thousand miles away, this was misguided. Anyway, I am back on the 9th, but unless you have another certificate prepared Steve, I think I have screwed this one up.

You're correct. I do not have that particular certificate. I can priont out a temp certificate for the 2nd, but you should deliver the real one when you return.

dicksond, it's too bad that the "real" certificate is unavailable this week. But, after consulting with the folks who've responded in this thread, I've decided to go ahead with the lunch on Friday of this week -- and you or Steve can worry about replacing the certificate later on, if necessary.

Please note, however, that the start time of Friday's lunch will be 12:30 rather than noon as previously proposed. I will edit the title of the thread to reflect this change.

Looking forward to seeing Steve Z, Santander, crrush, and anyone else who can make it,
    Amata

Just a reminder that a group of us will be lunching at Healthy Food today at 12:30 to present the GNR certificate or a reasonable facsimile:

    Amata
    Antonius
    Lucantonio
    Santander
    Steve Z
    crrush

Drop-ins welcome, if you have a hankering for dumplings, kugelis, and/or blynai for lunch. :)

What a perfect South Side unrushed lunch. Brava on the nomination and setting up the event, Amata. I can't get enough of bacon fat and pork dumplings. Drizzled with bacon fat. Topped with bacon.*

The blyni with Door County sour cherries and rye soda (not soda and rye) were also exceptional, and I wished Jazzfood or David Hammond were there to transcribe Gina's excellent oral history of the restaurant. I hadn't been to Healthy Food in a while, and this crystallized for me just how lovingly home-made everything is. The next time I do my Halsted pork two-courser, at Taqueria San Jose (dos tacos al pastor con cebolla y cilantro y un licuado chico de platano) and Ed's (smoked pork pancake with green onions), I'm going to have to add Healthy Food at make it a three-fer.

*even though we discovered it's Oscar Meyer.

Thanks, Santander. The company at lunch was great AND the food was marvelous. Like you, I enjoyed hearing Gina's tales of the history of the restaurant, her family, and the community. After you, crrush, and Steve Z left, we continued chatting for another half hour or so.

We then continued the South Side theme of the day with a short hike along the canal starting at Ashland and heading southwest. There's a nice, new (?), city park there along the canal -- though where one parks to access it is a bit of a mystery. I believe the name of the park is Canalport Riverwalk.

Pictures of the lunch and presentation should follow soon.

For the record, I have absolutely no problem with Oscar Meyer bacon...or any bacon for that matter.

I'll echo the kudos for today's lunch. This was my first visit to Healthy Food Lithuanian, but it certainly won't be my last. You couldn't wish for a friendlier place or food prepared with more care.

The original cert has now been delivered and they had the one you guys delivered framed and up next to the cash register.

And my buckwheat pancakes were just the way I like them.

Thanks, David! I like that many places framed the certificates (even those that were already laminated!), and also that this year some of the presenters matted or pre-framed the certs. This variety seems characteristic of both the restaurants and our community members.
