To be upfront, I am the owner of Va Pensiero Restaurant. Of course, I am an avid foodie and big fan of this site. I wanted to mention an event we are having this week. This year I had a chance to visit the GCFD and I have never seen such an operation, so many great people working so diligently to feed thousands of people with all levels of need. After this visit, I decided to do whatever I could to help. So on Thursday, November 8th we will be hosting a dinner here at the restaurant to support the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Chef Eric has worked on a menu of fall favorites including Smoked Mozzarella And Leek Tarts, Poached Pears With Taleggio, Porcini Mushroom Flan, Braised Beef Short Ribs (one of his best dishes) and Pumpkin Cheesecake.
The dinner is $100.00 per person and begins at 6:30; tax and gratuities are included. All proceeds are donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

We will have entertainment and much of the food and wine are donated.
If you are looking for a good meal and can help out this most worthwhile cause, please join us for a night of fun.

    Owner,

Coincidentally, I will be cooking, along with Melissa Graham (MAG) and other members of Purple Asparagus at the Greater Chicago Food Depository Kids Cafe that very evening.

GCFD is an excellent cause, hope you get a good turnout.

    Enjoy,
    Gary

This sounds great. The Italian cuisine at Va Pensiero is excellent, so it's a perfect place to have a good dinner for a good cause. I had dinner al fresco on the patio there a few months ago and it was lovely; too bad that's not an option now that the weather has turned colder.

Va Pensiero is just a block and a half walk from the Davis Street stop on the el's Purple Line and on Metra's Union Pacific North Line. They offer valet parking in front of the restaurant; it's easier for the valet folks if you pull up on Oak heading southbound from Davis Street (Davis flows westbound). Street parking in the vicinity is easy in the meter spaces on and near Davis Street, not quite as easy (but not necessarily impossible) in free spaces south of Davis. If you park in a meter space, please note that you must feed the meters till 9 pm and they are rigorously patrolled for meter violations. There is also a reasonably-priced high-rise self-park garage two blocks away, with an entrance on the north side of Davis Street between Sherman and the tracks.

BTW, Va Pensiero has a website at va-p.com.
